Who We Are
BurnstopUSA
specializes in designing fire retardant formulas specifically invented for our
20th century society. From wildfires to homefires, from textiles to plastic decorations, BurnstopUSA has fire retardant formulas and fire extinguishing solutions that work. BurnstopUSA products were introduced throughout
Europe back in 1990 and proved to be very successful and effective, meeting the
strict European standards set for fire retardants and extinguishing agents.
These same innovative fire retardant formulas came to the United States in 2006.
Continuing research and development gives our product a technological advantage
and keeps us in the forefront of fire fighting and flame proofing products.

Because Every Second
Counts
As a fire heats the air, it rises to the
ceiling carrying with it hydrocarbons and byproducts of the incomplete
combustion (smoke). This is carried across the ceiling and as it cools it falls
to the floor and is drawn towards the fire in a circular motion. Fresh outside
air increases convection. The increased air movement fans the flames, raising
its temperature.
A fires temperature can quickly
reach 1600 to 1800 degrees Fahrenheit. Flashover occurs when the temperature is
sufficient to cause all of the available combustible surfaces and the smoke to
ignite. In the last thirty years, the world has reduced the time from first
flicker to flashover from 5 minutes to less than 2 minutes. The primary reason
being the use of synthetic fibers used in clothing, furnishings and
materials used in construction. Synthetic materials generate 2 to 3
times the heat of natural fibers. This amount of heat increases the hot air for
convection, thus speeding up the time to flashover. In today's fire fighting
design and fire safety engineering, the method for interfering or stopping
convection and flashover is a prime concern.

In surviving a
fire, seconds become critical. The national average for a fire fighting unit to
respond to a fire is 3 ½ minutes after receipt of the alarm. Considering that
it takes anywhere from 1 to 3 minutes to sound an alarm and then another 3 ½
minutes for a fire department to arrive at the scene (the national average),
their heroic efforts are sometimes too late to save structures and yes lives are
lost too. How long would it take for them to respond if the home was in a rural
area?
The fault lies, not with the Fire Department's ability to respond, but
with the methods of construction and with the materials we furnish our homes and
offices with. Instead of increasing the time to flashover we have been reducing
it. The bottom line is nobody survives being in a room that flashes
over.
Any degree of safety that can be achieved, whether in terms of
minutes or even seconds, can make a life or death difference. Through the use of
